James Scott brings 27 years of theater experience to the Capri, including 14 years at the Guthrie Theater, 7 of those as the General Manager. During this time his responsibilities included researching, contracting and coordinating international theater productions brought to the Guthrie’s WorldStages program. As Director of the Capri, Scott’s responsibilities include supervising the Capri remodel and expansion, management of all productions, presentations and rentals, and development of arts programming for students and the community.

Scott is a graduate of the University of Connecticut MFA program in Theater Technical Direction has his BFA in Theater Design and Technology from Wright State University. He has held positions as Assistant Production Manager and General Manager for the Guthrie Theater; North American Production Manager for David Eden Productions, Ltd., Associate Professor of Technical Theater for State University of New York – New Paltz; Flight Director for ZFX, Inc., a complete service provider for all theatrical flying effects, Technical Director for North Shore Music Theater, and Assistant Technical Director for Goodspeed Opera House (now Goodspeed Musicals). Scott has previously served on the board of directors for PCYC and the East Downtown Council. He has volunteered with the Normandale Elementary French Immersion School Internship Fundraising Program and chaired the Valley View Middle School set construction team, among other volunteer activities.
